You might want the power and flexibility that a SPARC T Series Unix platform provides – with built in virtualisation in the form of Containers or the full Oracle Virtual Machine for SPARC (OVM). OVM on SPARC does not necessarily require a complex management infrastructure and multiple, independent Solaris OS’s and Application Software can be run on a single machine.
When it comes Solaris x86 Oracle x86 servers are the way to go. An Oracle support contract on the server always covers the OS as well as the hardware and there are no upfront OS license fees. The most cost effective way to limit CPU exposure to Oracle Enterprise licensing is to use an Oracle x86 server with Solaris containers which can limit your CPU cores down to two giving you an Oracle license requirement of one, regardless of how many CPU’s are fitted to the server.
When you are considering an Oracle Enterprise Edition Database platform and want to deploy RAC look no further than the Oracle Database Appliance, a ready-made dual node high available x86 platform with everything you need, pre-configured; CPU’s, memory, flash, disks and all of the required interconnects. The infrastructure integration is taken care of; you just concentrate on the business end.
NAS storage from Oracle is provided with the ZFS Storage Appliance. This enterprise storage supports all major protocols and features such as compression, deduplication, snapshots, thin provisioning and triple parity RAID which are all standard. Ease of management and system analysis with built in analytics are this systems key forte along with single file complete system patching.
Tape is addressed with the StorageTek SL150 Library which scales from 1 to 20 LTO drives and 30 to 300 slots. This library is designed to address a wide range of businesses at a seriously competitive price. 300 slots can be accommodated in 21RU, redundant power is available and every system comes with a colour touchscreen and remote web GUI.
