You’re running SPARC T5-2 UNIX servers and want some separate lower cost servers for Dev/Test, what do you do? Buying more T5-2’s may not be in the budget and even a T5-2 single socket comes in with a minimum configuration price of nearly €28K plus support.
The easy answer is buy an entry level Fujitsu M10-1, a 1U SPARC64 X CPU based server, available from Synoptix. This simple 1U server provides between two and sixteen SPARC CPU cores by way of Capacity on Demand, eight internal disk slots, dual power and quad Gigabit Ethernet.
There are three PCIe slots so extra connectivity to 10GbE, 8/16GB Fibre, 6Gb SAS and FCOE are easily accommodated.

In that configuration there are twelve spare memory slots, six spare disk slots and CPU’s can be grown in increments of two for €855 a pair. Solaris containers can of course be used in exactly the same way as they can on a T5, Solaris 11 runs unchanged on the Fujitsu M10-1.
