Familiar 1U and 2U formats

The new Oracle X8-2 & X8-2L x86 Servers are available to price and ship. They follow on from Oracles line of x86 servers, the X7’s.  CPU’s are upgraded with Oracle choosing to offer three variants of the Intel Xeon® CPU from 4-Core to 24-Core. You can now skip using a disk controller and just boot off mirrored M.2 SATA SSD as well. The 1U server supports up to eight NVMe and 1.2TB spinning disks. The 2U version supports twelve 14TB spinning disks and NVMe and lots more PCIe slots for maximum SAN and Network connectivity.

Oracle Database Usage?

Oracle offer a variant with a high frequency 4-Core 3.8GHz CPU. (Variants include dual 24-Core CPU’s) This CPU will help those with CPU bound Oracle licensing to get good performance for a minimal amount of cores. You can have one or two of these 4-Core CPU’s.  If you want to keep it as simple as possible you can deploy with just one 4-Core 3.8GHz CPU for two Oracle Enterprise Edition Licenses for Linux.

Security

As the previous X7 range, this is not a generic server, Oracle owns 100 percent of the X8-2 server design and controls 100 percent of the supply chain and firmware source code. Motherboard, BIOS, and service processor firmware designed 100 percent by Oracle engineers and the entire manufacturing process controlled by Oracle—made in USA.
