Do you need a server which supports Solaris 10 & 11 SPARC and you are on a budget? Oracle have just re-priced the Fujitsu M10-1 Server to provide even more value, fitted with the premium SPARC64 X+ 16-core 3.2 GHz processor instead of the SPARC64 X 16-core 2.8 GHz.
The Fujitsu M10-1 provides between two and sixteen SPARC CPU cores by way of Capacity on Demand, eight internal disk slots, dual power and quad Gigabit Ethernet. There are three PCIe slots so extra connectivity to 10GbE, 8/16GB Fibre, 6Gb SAS and FCOE are easily accommodated.
A full working system with two 3.2GHz CPU’s activated, 32GB of memory, 2*600GB disks, Service Processor, Solaris 11, rack kit, power leads and three years 24/7/365 Oracle Premier Support comes in at €10,500 delivered. In that configuration there are twelve spare memory slots, six spare disk slots and CPU’s can be grown in increments of two up to a total of 16. Should a CPU core fail the server will take an unused CPU from the unused pool at no extra configuration or licensing costs.
A larger configuration example of six 3.2GHz CPU’s activated, 128GB of memory, 2*600GB disks and three years 24/7/365 Oracle Premier Support comes in at €15,600 delivered. A new M12-1 Server (the M10-1’s successor) with SPARC64 XII 6-core 3.2 GHz processor with the same amount of activated cores is ~€29K with the same support.
